If you want cheesesteak done right, go to POP'S. The restaurant's name stands for Pride Of Philly Steaks and it's been an iconic fixture of the Charleston Heights neighborhood for more than 20 years. Family-owned and operated, POP'S is open 24 hours (useful when craving late-night bites) and occupies an unmissable arched, stand-alone corner space with a covered outdoor patio.

The cheesesteaks are made with sliced ribeye, layered on locally baked buns with vegetables delivered fresh each day. Order by the number listed on the menu. The #32, for example, is a best-selling favorite, topped with provolone, mushrooms, and peppers. You can always mix things up by requesting American cheese or sliced chicken instead. And as always, request the sandwich "wit" or "wit-out" onions.

POP's has a variety of side dishes too, from sweet potato fries (with a coconut dipping syrup) to mac n' cheese bites and mozzarella sticks, but if you really want to eat like a Philadelphian, save room for a wrapped Tastykake treat for dessert.
